Teacher Tips Linky

I am joining up with Michelle over at Teach 123 for her Teacher Tips Linky Party!

My top 2 tips were also hers:

1. The First Days of School by Harry Wong is an essential read. I still own my copy and I've been teaching for 9 years!

2. Get to know the custodians in your building. They need to be your best friends! Bake them cookies, buy them a soda and snack - whatever to get them on your side!

I still came up with a few others...

Check out what others are saying. This linky party is also spilling over into Pinterest. Check it out here...

You know you teach __ LiNkY PaRtY!!!

This is my 9th year teaching 1st grade and there are few pieces of writing that cross my desk that I can't read if the handwriting is legible. This is definitely an ACQUIRED skill! I once brought home writing test papers and my husband and I watched TV together as I scored them. He glanced over at one point and said "How in the world can you read that!?" Without hesitation, I read the entire paper and he just stared dumbfounded. He, of course, is NOT in education! So, that is my "You know you teach first...moment" for the Linky Party!

Black History Wax Museum

Today was the finale to our month long Black History Projects. My firsties choose a scientist or inventor they wanted to learn more about and completed a trifold project with important info about their person. Then they had to write 3 simple sentences in first person that they memorized. Bringing it all together, they dressed up as their important person and our grade level put on a wax museum. With a red dot on the floor that visitors pressed when they wanted to hear what someone said, students were ready for the event!

These pictures don't begin to give the event justice...it's so cool! The mayor was even in attendance, as a firstie from another class was portraying him!

Lastly, don't forget the big Teachers Pay Teachers Leap Day Sale tomorrow! A sale like this only comes around every four years and TpT says they wont host another big sale until May for Teacher Appreciation. Check out the other sales at this linky party page...

What I Love Linky Party

Although Valentine's Day has come and gone, I thought this was a cute linky party. Funky First Grade Fun is hosting a "What Do You Love" party.

Here are my loves...

On another note, here at home was a snow makeup day for year round schools. We have seen unseasonably warm temperatures and no snow in sight so we knew we wouldn't be "making up" any days due to snow. But God has a sense of humor!!! Yesterday, the temperature dropped and...you guessed it - IT SNOWED!!!! I couldn't believe it! Traditional schools had a 2-hour delay and I had a late start to my morning. Snow around here isn't really anything significant, so you northerners will laugh at this picture. Here is our front yard last night around 9pm.
